Cara, who formerly went under the ring name Mistico, has garnered a host of fans due to his high-flying and acrobatic style, and has worked all over world, most notably in his home country in the Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre federation.
Cara was unveiled at a press conference in Mexico City on Wednesday and could not hide his delight at joining WWE, where he will hope to enjoy as much success as countrymen Rey Mysterio and Alberto Del Rio.
"WWE is the pinnacle of sports entertainment. It is an honour and a thrill for me to be able to perform with the world's best," he said. "It is a new beginning and a new life.
"With that in mind, I have chosen the new name of Sin Cara in hopes to represent all the legendary Mexican masked performers and to carry the banner of their legacy to the entire world."
WWE's Executive Vice President Stephanie McMahon was extremely pleased to snare Cara's signature, saying: Sin Cara is a tremendous performer who brings the crowd to its feet every time he steps into the ring. With us, his stardom will only get bigger and brighter."
