Adams set for Blades post

The Port Vale boss, a lifelong Blades fan, has been linked with the post ever since Gary Speed departed Bramall Lane to helm the Wales national side earlier this month.

Former Brighton and Coventry manager Adams said on Wednesday he hoped his future would be swiftly resolved one way or the other.

And it appears his wish has been granted, with the south Yorkshire side reportedly set to unveil the 49-year-old in the near future.

The Blades have been operating under caretaker manager John Carver since Speed's departure, but have lost their last two games against Hull City and Norwich to leave them perched precariously on the brink of the Championship drop zone.

If Adams is appointed he will become the third manager to reign at United in the space of five months, after Speed took over following Kevin Blackwell's sacking in August.
